What type of clothes do you typically go for...

I basically shop at target and Kohl’s. I’m 29 and I want to revamp my wardrobe. I don’t like spending a lot on clothes but I’m wondering if I should invest in some nice pieces so the quality lasts longer, I would love some advice. Thanks!
