Stripped membranes

I'm 37+3  and have 18 days until my due date.  My dr. Stripped my membranes yesterday without asking permission. When I asked what I can expect from this, all she said was more cramping. I'm nervous after reading up on this that it can start the process of labor, or could do nothing. I was induced with my first child so I never experienced losing my plug, water breaking or contractions. I just would like to know what to expect? Cramps have been terrible this morning!!
