What to Register For VS. What to Buy

Question

I know my husband and I will have several baby showers in the months to come, but what should we go ahead and buy ourselves? We've already bought a stroller and car seat. I'm almost 19 weeks now and don't like feeling unprepared 😁.  What are you all buying yourselves?

Don't but anything until after the shower. That or keep the receipts for whatever you buy in case you receive it as a gift

Everyone is different honestly. What we bought our selves were mainly all the big ticket items: Crib (that was actually given to us by SO's brother), changing table (not necessary), two dressers, carseat/stroller combo, pack n play, baby bullet and the kiinde system with extra starter sets/pieces. We have a bunch of other stuff already we set the nursery up two weeks ago at 18weeks. We are buying another carseat specifically for the car, just so I feel safer. That may go on our registry, since we're having our babyshower at 26weeks, so I know for a fact we have plenty of time to get the rest we need/want.

For our registry, we put all the smaller items like clothes, safety/health and grooming kits, bath stuff (we already have the tub), bibs, mittens, toys, books, swaddle/receiving blankets, etc.

Unless you know for a fact you have family wants/willing to help with the other big items you need, I would purchase that yourself. This is my second baby, so I definetely learned from experience on that.

I just bought the big stuff, the stuff I know I'll be picky about. So a stroller, car seat, crib, diaper bag. But the small stuff I'll just ask for at the baby shower. And whatever's left to buy, we'll get after.

There are certain things I want that are incredibly specific. (Like the car seat we picked out). So we are buying those things and furniture ourselves. We are registering for what we want, but like at our wedding, know people won't necessarily shop our registry, sometimes they buy different brands etc. if that makes sense?
