Baby Names for Non Pregnant Friends??

Question

Does anyone else have non pregnant friends who have asked you what you're naming your baby and you say you aren't sure yet. Then they say "well as long as you don't use my baby name". What's up with that? Lol, it just makes me laugh. Like really, you think you own a name of a baby you haven't gotten pregnant with yet?? This has happened twice to me already and I'm wondering if it's common and what you have said if it's happened to you.

I had been wanting to have a child with my now husband for years. We are a blended family with kids of our own but I wanted one together. I told my sil the names I would use, one being the exact girl version of my husband. She had 4 kids back to back with the last being a girl and using the name I picked. It upset me but I ultimately decided I didn't care because if I had another child and it was a girl I would still use the name. Mine would be spelled the original way I chose with the nickname I intended. If we can have multiple Michaels in my family why can't there be a multiple girl name.

A few of my friends did this actually! But I didn't take their names (mainly because I didn't like them that much haha) apart from Atticus - which my SO didn't like anyway AND we are having a girl BUT I think that's only because of the type of person I am- I don't want to upset anybody and being told not to take a name, I wouldn't. For our next baby, I might just tell people that we've already decided on a name even before we have so that they wouldn't think we 'stole' it, and then not announce the name until the birth- at which point it's too late anyway.!

I hate that. Lol  I don't mind them sharing what they want to name theirs but why tell people if your so scared someone will steal it? Especially as a friend I wouldn't.  But what if, as the pregnant one, I had already picked that name. 
 I don't believe in sharing the name before the baby arrives so it could happen.

My sister got pregnant at 18. Asked me what I would name a boy if I had one. I told her my favorite name ever and she stole it. I don't tell people names. I don't think there's anything wrong with keeping names to yourself of you intend to use them one day.

The funny thing about non pregnant women naming their kids.....is that they have someone that also needs to agree on the name! Things change when you get pregnant. We are naming out son Ethan and that was not even on my radar prepregnancy!! But my husband hated all the names I loved origianally. So no it does not bother me at all....

I have a friend who is 36, never married, no kids, no boyfriend, lives at home, and she won't tell me names she likes for babies because she doesn't want anyone to steal the names...I sort of feel like she's missing the boat here lol

I understand why your friends are saying that (because they love a name and don't want someone who is close to them to use it because they'll feel like they can't) BUT it's really insensitive to you and your pregnancy to say that. they really just should've kept their name ideas to themselves so nobody can "steal" them and just said "congratulations!" and left it at that... I hope that wasn't so wordy that it goes beyond understanding.. ha ha!

My SO sister just had a baby 4 months ago she named her Angelina, when she found out I was pregnant the first thing she asked me if it's a girl what will I name her,I told her idk in my mind I already have a girl name set.... but I feel she's alittle jealousy  over me cause her attention is not on her or her baby anymore... then I find out she might be pregnant  again.... I guess she heard my conversation with my SO talking about  baby names we were set if it's a girl we will name her Aaliyah. The next day she's talking to her friend on the phone saying if she has another girl she would name her Aaliyah.... you have no idea how pissed I was.... still keeping the name...

One message we got after annoucing was "congratulations you can't use Jack or Sienna" at this stage this couple is still a good two years off TTC. I replied with "ha no way my dads dog is Jack"😏 BUT if one of the names she listed was one of our names- tough luck honey!

Yes. I would just say baby EAJ (baby's initials) and when LO is born, I'll announce whenever the hell I want! My baby, my name. Lol
