House warming party?

My husband and I are in the market for our first home. Once we have our “ducks in a row” and we are pretty much moved in, I’m thinking about having a house warming party.
Is that a thing people still do? If so, how do I plan that? Any ideas??

Do it! We did and it was fun. It was just a nice way for people to get together. We kept it low key with grilled burgers, some yard games, and drinks. Didn’t expect or ask for gifts. We had fun with it.

I've purchased 2 homes I'm the last 4 years and we didn't do a house warming for either of them... In fact most of my friends that have also bought didn't throw one (that I'm aware of). BUT that's not to say no one does then because I've definitely been to one. It was basically a come and hang out type thing.

I think you should if it’s something you want to do! 
I find that it depends on the person... I’m a planner and an organizer and I love parties!! So for me, I’d definitely have one! It also depends on how far your family lives, etc! I’ll be having any house warming as a mini reunion too! 
That being said, don’t feel pressured to do so!! It’s not everyone’s cup of tea to host, or throw, so just listen to your heart :)
