Should judges impose a punishment that the defendant wants once they're found guilty?

I'm watching "I Am A Killer" on Netflix and a few of them asked for the death penalty and all of them got what they asked for. So that brought the question to my mind.
This is NOT a debate about what you think about the death penalty. This is simply a debate about whether or not defendants should be punished in the way that they want.

To be honest, if they wanted to die, I'd deny that🤷🏼‍♀️ They clearly did something bad enough to want the death penalty. They can live the rest of their life dealing with that.

I don’t think I can answer this without saying I don’t think anyone should receive the death penalty regardless of if they want it or not. 
For less serious crimes, I’d like to see the wishes of the convicted person taken somewhat into account. For example, being placed in a prison closer to where their children live so they can have regular visits if possible.

I say no. It's supposed to be a punishment. Getting what you want makes it less of one.

I just started watching that show! Honestly, I don’t think they should get it because of how they described death row compared to gen pop. Most of them asked for it because they knew they’d be in there a long time and it’s like apartment living. I also find it to be a “easy way out”. Either way though they’re spending their lives in jail, or at least majority of their life.

I feel like if your put murdering people, getting the sentance you want is the last thing you should get.  They can just  go sit in super max for the rest of their life with no chance of parole ✌

i feel like that’s a little too nice for us to let THEM choose their fate, even if it is worse than their imposed sentence. they don’t deserve to choose.
