Boyfriend using tinder

Me and my boyfriend were discussing how I deactivated my tinder account when we started dating. When told about this in the beginning he said he didn't need to deactivate his and he wouldn't use it. Today he went on to deactivate his account and I saw that he had put up quite recent photos of himself. I also saw that he had purposefully cropped my face out of one of his pictures. I looked on his messages and he had been messaging one girl a few months ago. I was unable to read the messages and he deactivated his account shortly after to show that he wasn't using it anymore. Me and my boyfriend have been together for nearly 3 years now and I would never have thought he would have done this. He claims that he only used it because he was lonely as he really doesn't have many friends. I do believe that what we have is something special but I don't know if I can trust him anymore. Any advice on my situation would be well received, thanks!
