So, I got engaged back in May after dating my significant other for 5 years!

My ex messaged me yesterday after finding out, saying congratulations.

I dated him just previous to my current relationship. We were together about a year, which felt like much longer. Our breakup was somewhat nasty, but we’ve remained civil and sort of friends over the years. We’ve met up to catch up a few times, and we have many mutual friends.

He’s now in another relationship as well.

This time is different though.

He’s been messaging me consistently, asking me to hang out, texting me good morning, telling me all about his family and bringing me up to date on his life, and we haven’t talked like this since we dated.

What am I supposed to think of this?

In your opinion or experience, how is he feeling and why is he talking to me like this after finding out about my engagement?
