2 year old got soap in his eyes

My cousin was washing his hands with the Irish spring bar of soap and he got it In his eyes and he started crying so i ran some cold water over his eyes and took a wet cloth and let him rub with that instead of his soapy hands and he was crying alot cuz it burned but he fell asleep just now... do you think itll cause serious damage? I've gotten soap, face wash, shampoo etc in my eyes before and my vision is okay but could it affect him since hes still little?
