Exchange program with boyfriend?

I need help. In a few days I’ll be going on an exchange program to Madrid for 5 months with my 2 best friends. I have a boyfriend. We’ve been together for 7 months now, and he’s also going on an exchange program to Spain, but to a different city 3 hours away. A lot of people have told me that this kind of experience is better when you are single, because a boyfriend may pull you back from traveling or partying. Today my mom talked to me and told me the same thing. She wants me to get the full experience. Recently I’ve been feeling like my boyfriend wants us to get more serious, but I want to take things lightly. I don’t know if I should break up with him now or wait until we’re both in Spain to see how things are between us there. What should I do?

You should still be able to party and have fun, and get the “full experience” with a boyfriend. Actually having a boyfriend three hours a way should make it better in my opinion. 
Plan to meet each other if you can. Like meet in the middle once every 2 weeks or once a month. If you can. If not, whatever. Five months really isn’t that long tbh. 
It’s your decision though. If you feel like you can see a long term relationship with him, I think you guys can make it work. If not then don’t waste his time.

Think about how important your boyfriend is to you, like really think about how serious you guys are. At this point, you should know where you want the relationship to go. 
That being said, if you want to stay with him, it won’t affect your experience at all. Go visit him once or twice a month, learn to do long distance. It may only be 3 hours, but the distance will either strengthen or weaken the relationship. It all depends on how strongly you guys feel on keeping the relationship going.

My parents lived three hours away from each other for four years of college. Every weekend/every other weekend my dad would drive 3 hours to my moms dorm and pick her up and bring her back to his place ... then bring her back to school for the week. (She didn’t have her own car) I don’t know why you would want to break up with your boyfriend unless you don’t really like him or you just want to be single and be with other people while your away. You should still be able to enjoy yourself. You can make it work will him and y’all can plan out weekends together IN SPAIN !!!! That’s so romantic and amazing. Don’t make decisions based on other people’s thoughts. Follow your own path
