First ultrasound at 18wks???

Question

I talked to my Dr. today about when the potential first ultrasound would be and he said 18wks. That seems really late to me. Anyone else doctor say the same thing?

There is really no need for an earlier ultrasound... There is not much they can see or check. The most important and pretty much only thing they can check before that time is the heartbeat. They don't need an ultrasound for that. At 18 weeks all baby organs are formed, and that's the reason for the ultrasound-- to check if everything formed correctly. I understand you would really wanna see your little one earlier, been there, but extra ultrasounds are not very good for the baby.

I had one at 7 weeks, 12 weeks and then 18 weeks. Honestly, I loved having one so often and seeing baby grow. If it's a deal breaker for you, try a different doctor! I'm sure every doctor does it differently!

No. U can have an ultrasound sound at 4weeks. I had mine done at 6weeks.
