Visitation rights??

Question

My sons father and I have been broken up since I was 4 months pregnant and I have a final restraining order on him due to him threatening me and harassing me. Now his sister and I was on okay terms but now she seems to be getting super controlling of my son making it seem she trying to get visitation rights too see him on his behalf. 
She told me if I do not let her see her nephew she will fight for visitation rights. Can that even be possible???

She is just trying to control the situation. I was say do what you feel you need to do.Grandparents can only go after visitation if they can prove they had a previous relationship with the child and it would be detrimental to the child if that relationship is ended. The father is the only person that could take you to court for visitation.

Even with the grandparent thing it's extremely difficult and most states need them to prove they were a large part of your child's life (if I remember correctly, it's been awhile since I read it). It's highly unusual for grandparent rights and I think the father has to have died or something for them to qualify to even be seen in court about it. Never have I heard of a sister.

First off, I'm sorry you're having to deal with something like this... Secondly eaxh state has different laws... You'll want to call your local Child Services office and they'll be able to tell you the laws, etc.. I've never heard of Aunt visitation (that's pretty stupid if it's an actual thing) however the restraining order will go a long way in the courts for even the father wanting to get visitation and this is generally after you put him on child support.... Most states favor the mother and unless they can prove being horribly unfit (like not feeding baby, leaving baby alone,  drugs, etc) then the custody remains with you and you're able to negotiate Any visitation through a mediator of the courts....

There is no such thing as grandparent rights or any other right except for parental rights. A court cannot grant visitation against a parents wishes...  That would infringe upon an inherent right given by the constitution- the right to raise a family.

I know in OK grandparents can do that legally, not sure about the sister though.
