school has 8 hours if they can't do what they need to get done with the kids that's their problem home time is home time

As a teacher, I disagree. Homework(in fair amounts) is good. It teaches them responsibility and knowledge. It also helps the teacher by understanding how well kids have grasped the concept of the material they were studying. Usually for my classes. For example if we have 10 questions to answer today, i would do the first two as an example and explain clearly HOW to do it. They do 4 in class and 4 at home. I think this is fair amount of work you have to put in once you leave school.

Approx an hour of homework per day per subject, that leaves the kid with about 5 hours of homework each night to complete. Add that to a little family time, eating dinner, possible after school sports and/or jobs, leaves about 2 seconds to do anything else after school. While I do see some homework as necessary, I think the amount that kids are given is too much. I'm more speaking of high school children in this situation.

I don’t give my students homework anymore. I did for three years and decided not to last year. I saw a huge increase in their test scores and their reading abilities because the parents had time to just let the kids read instead of worrying about completing worksheets.

I agree with it. The reason being is because when I was in middle school/high school, I'd spend 8 hours in school, come home and spend what little actual free time I had doing home work, it wasn't the first or last time, I spent all night doing homework then was too exhausted to pay attention in class.

I think homework is a good thing but it shouldn’t be unnecessarily long, stressful or put a strain on the family. I think it should be an extension of what the child learned that day in school as a refresher and help the parents get involved in their child’s learning. It would be great if parents would sit down after school and read or do educational things with their children but not all will so having some sort of homework assignment I think is beneficial.

I soo agree! Me as an adult have free time after work (working for 8 hours) why should kids not have it too? They are children, they need to move, explore, be lazy, have free time the same way adults need it, maybe more. Why pile homework on them as well? Let them enjoy after school time and they may pay more attention during classes.

It’s true. 8 subjects in school, 1 hour per subject home work means 8 more hours ... just no.

I teach first grade. My homework is to read because research shows the importance of nightly reading. Any other homework I could give wouldn’t just be homework for the student, but would be a chore for the parents too because they have to make sure it gets done. Me not giving 6 year olds more work to do after 7 hours of work at school is not going to set them up to fail in college, and that argument is completely ludicrous. The pressure from parents who treat first grade like it will make or break their child’s ability to get into college in 12 years is actually what sets the child up for future failure. Let them be little.

In a way I do agree with homework but it can be given too much. I was in high school, only 13 and I was given sheets of homework every day, every week and when it’s a subject like art I remember spending all day and night doing it, it caused me so much much pressure I got extreme anxiety from it and I don’t believe any 13 year old should go through that🤷🏼♀️
