Best experience of my life.

Brittany

So my story is a little late... My son is now 22 months and we are expecting no. 2 in November.

After having a stressful and long pregnancy with HG since 5 weeks and loosing a total of 10kg from pre pregnancy weight to the day before my son was born.

27 weeks saw me in hospital with my son literally crushing my diaphragm so I could hardly breathe.

At 37 and 3 I did not feel my son move for about 24 hours was not uncommon for him to have some quiet time but usually a cold drink would get him dancing my partner and I decided to make the trip to hospital to get everything checked out.

I had not had a scan since 27 weeks and bub was measuring a week small at that stage (I looked small my whole pregnancy) so at 37 weeks when he decided not to move for me we got a scan done at hospital to check everything was okay and to my midwife and everyones surprise my son was measuring 4kg already and had run out of room. We decided at the best option would be to induce at 38 weeks.

So sunday 23rd October 2016 my partner and I made our way to hospital ready to be induced and meet our baby boy. 8:30am the balloon was put in and I was left to get some rest and they would take the balloon out in 12hrs if it didn't come out itself.

12 hours later 9:30pm and the midwife took out my balloon breaking my waters at the same time. I was 3cm and didn't even realise I was already having contractions until the midwife told me.. fast forward to 1am Monday morning and the pain really started to set in I decided to give the gas a go my midwife checked me again and in all that time only progressed to 4cm. Got to about 5am and the pain is insane I decided to get an epidural they checked my progress again and still only 4cms I was devastated.

I was stressed and so was my son they decided to place a probe on his head to help monitor his heart better and make sure he didn't get to stressed.

It was about 9:30am and I started to feel pressure and pain again the midwife called the anasteasist back in to check the epidural (it should not have been wearing off that quickly) and they decided to give me a second shot at this stage my son's stress levels increased and and I went from having my midwife and anasteasist in the room with me to having a team of 15 doctors nurses and midwives in the room they had called the cardiac specialist to have on the floor in the NICU waiting for my son and prepared me for a c-section. I told them to wait until my partner came back from having a smoke before they took me to theatre.

10 minutes later my partner got back into the room to find it full of doctors. They did one final check before starting to move me and found I had gone from 4cm to 10cm between 9:30 and 10am. It was to late for the c-section. ( I was actually relieved) time to push.

After all the pain and stress it took only 3 pushes to have my son arrive. A nice 4kg (9lbs).

Due to the stress they rushed him up to the NICU to see the cardiac specialist who was waiting for him. Luckily everything settled and he was out of the NICU the next day. We spent the next 4 days in hospital with antibiotics and monitoring just to be sure.

4 days old and ready to head home.

Kaleb Kenneth born 4kg (9lbs) 54cm long.
