Is it a must to pump?

I’m due October 20th, I plan on breastfeeding and want to know if it’s necessary to start pumping right away? If so, why?

If you don’t have a reason to pump then don’t pump. I needed to pump because the engorgement from my milk coming in was painful and baby wasn’t nursing well. But after that I haven’t pumped since. I still have one tho, just in case

No, not at all. It’s actually recommended that you don’t pump at first (as long as baby is latching) because it can cause an oversupply. It is nice to have a manual pump available to relieve pressure as necessary because engorgement can get painful.

Absolutely not. The few times I have used my pump I because I had errands where I couldn’t bring the baby. And since I have a full year of maternity leave I never needed a freezer full of milk. 
Also look up videos/info about reverse pressure softening (cottermans hold) its a way better technique to relive engorgemant than to use a pump when your milk comes in.

I never pumped with my first, and only pumped with my second because he was in the NICU. You don’t need to but if you don’t make much milk it helps you make more.

Pumping seemed to make me loose milk supply honestly to the point i had to start using formula until i could gain back my milk supply to satisfy my daughters needs!! Idk if thats normal but it's up to you,  i don't recommend it if you DON'T need it though! Your body will produce what the baby needs when the baby needs it :)

I haven’t pumped except here and there until this past week. My daughter is 7 weeks old and just started sleeping longer stretches at night. I pump then to relieve engorgement and keep up my supply. If I wasn’t going back to work in a few weeks, I’d not bother pumping at all.

I will because I'll have to work up a stash right away. I'll breastfeed as well.  Maybe I'll pump one side while feed on the other.

It isn’t necessary but in order to establish my supply as a ftm to a smaller baby I pumped between feeds to increase my milk. It took a solid month to finally get it up to where it needed to be. Everyone is different. So for me I pumped to increase my oz for the baby as his supply on demand wasn’t enough

No, I tried it and looking back it was a waste of time. I just nursed from the breast, but I'm a stay at home mom so I could do that
