Is it bad to get food stamps?

Hey everyone I work (part time) and I take 1-2 classes per semester to try to forward my future. I was talking to a friend about how she wanted to move out and I suggested she or her bf go in food stamps while they work out the kinks (she works full time and he doesnt work at all).

For a while she didn’t respond and then she messaged me back saying her boyfriend said no because it was bad.

I’m confused. Maybe if I was abusing the system handing my stamps for money or by working to better my future yeah I’d understand. But stamps helps me get so far I do need to pay for the rest of my food and I pay for rent and bills. I’m not being lazy with them. Also my mom was in govt assistance for like a couple of years but she went off then and she’s now manager to her accounting department at a fancy jnsurance company. Idk.

It just had me floored how her bf was so snobby about it. Unless it is a bad thing? Anyone want to help me 😧
