Cervix checks?

So I had my cervix checked Monday and my doctor told me that my cervix hadn’t started doing anything. I’m currently 35 weeks and 5 days. They asked me again if I wanted her to check it today and I said no bc I had just had it checked. And I didn’t think I had changed much. But can u dialate without contractions? I maybe have 3 to 5 a day and some days I have none and they are not really that painful. Just wondering if you can actually tell when you have dialated?

My doctor doesnt check you u till 37 weeks unless you have to go in and are having contractions.

I was still shut long and posterior at 39w5d. I had her the next day. I only got checked because i had 10 minute contractions for 7 days by then

Yes you can dilate. I was dilated to a 3 before being induced and had no noticeable contractions before that.

My friend was checked at 39 weeks and 4 days and she was dialed zero cm. The very next day she went from 0-6 and ending up having her baby. It can happen to fast so dilation doesn’t mean much especially not that early

I changed from a 1 to a 4 in a few hours just chilling in the ER and didn’t feel a thing. It’s possible. I was 35 weeks. After that I didn’t dilate more until labor started. But yes, you can dilate without feeling strong contractions. You may be having small ones and not even notice

It’s good that you said no! Frequent cervix checks are known to cause preterm labor, my sister is a L&D RN and sees women coming in before 37 weeks all the time because drs are checking them to early and to often. I told my dr no checks till 36 weeks at least and I most likely won’t be getting them every week either unless necessary ( like I’ve been having BH or pain)
