FTM breastfeeding and pumping question
So my baby was born on Sunday 8/26 and my milk came in on Wednesday 8/29. My little girl was having issues with lethargy so getting her to latch and do some work was very difficult so I was having to pump and finger feed with a syringe when she wouldn't latch. Come to find out her bilirubin levels were high. I guess they were high when we first left the hospital but not high enough that treatment was needed, and after that her little body just couldn't keep up. Well we've been at the hospital the last two nights getting phototherapy to lower her levels and she has regained energy and is doing great at the breast! Now comes my question, just felt the background was necessary. So because she is doing great at the breast I've been latching her on. We had one session where she was just not having it so we gave her a bottle I had pumped previously. When her next feeding time came my breasts were SO unbelievably engorged and my poor girl could not latch properly. Tried reverse pressure and everything but it was just not working so we gave her a bottle and I pumped to relieve the engorgement. I'm so new to all of this and honestly wasn't expecting to have to pump so often when I had my baby. Is the engorgement from skipping one session something that will happen all the time? Or is it just right now because my supply is crazy?? Just wondering what kind of schedule I need to be on and if I will always have to pump if she doesn't feed from the breast during one session here and there. Thanks in advance for any advice!!
