The Mucinex Experiment

Gunce

Hey Ladies - Who is up for helping me run an unofficial experiment for the next few weeks? I was researching mucinex and cervical mucus - and while there is a lot of anectodal evidence - real tests are thin on the ground. So I thought to myself, let us do some unofficial, unscientific experimentation right here in the Glow community. Participation is totally voluntary. And of course, please only participate with your doctor's guidance.

I was thinking we would divide into two groups. Everyone born on an even day (2,4,6...), who wants to participate, will take mucinex this cycle. Everyone who was born on an odd day (1,3,5...) won't. At the end of the month - we will see which group had more BFPs. As long as we have 2 people in each group - I think it will be interesting to follow. (Hopefully we will have more people than that.)

Everyone who wants to participate, sign up below, and say whether you are in the mucinex group or the control group, and how long you are TTC. Also when you are expecting your AF.

Why mucinex? Here is what fertility expert Toni Weshler has to say about it:

Guaifenesin — the active ingredient in Mucinex - can help you get pregnant by thinning your cervical fluid, which enables sperm to travel through your cervix and fertilize an egg. If you know from taking your temperature every morning that you're ovulating, but you don't seem to be producing much wet, slippery, cervical fluid, guaifenesin might be all the help you need to get pregnant.

How does it work? Guaifenesin, a common ingredient in cough syrups, is an "expectorant." That is, it relieves congestion by helping liquefy mucus in your lungs, allowing you to cough it up. And because it works systemically on all mucous membranes in your body, it can make your cervical fluid wetter, too. I would encourage you to take it from the first day you notice any type of wetness through the day of your temperature shift. That may be about a week.
