A chemical pregnancy is when the egg is fertilized and implants, but stops developing before a heartbeat occurs. They happen very often, and sometimes resolve around the time that AF is due so you wouldn't know unless you had a positive test. Sometimes a sac can be seen, but will be empty. it is not counted as a pregnancy.
