Why have divorce rates came up so much since the 1950’s?

I was reading an article, and statistics of divorce rates. The divorce rate has significantly increased since 1950-now

It is predicted that almost half of all married couples will get divorced as well. 
In your opinion, why do you believe it has increased so much?

I personally think it's because people nowadays look at something broken, figure they will throw it out and get a new one, back then something was broken ya fixed it.

I’m sure there are a lot of factors but honestly I think a big factor is that more women are working outside of the home so are more able to provide for themselves and that things aren’t as conservative as they were back then, I’m sure a lot of couples only stayed together because they didn’t want to face the social stigma of getting a divorce.

I think it could be bc people are rushing to get married without getting to know their partner. That or people getting married too young or married for the wrong reasons.

Divorce wasn’t really legal until 1969, when California became the first stare to pass a no fault law. Before then, you could only get divorced in severe circumstances, where one side had to be proven beyond doubt to be “at fault” in a way that would end the marriage (think incurable mental illness or proven adultery). If you look at the rates after about 1970, when it became easier to do, they jumped pretty quickly to about the 150,000s and stayed there. The number fluctuates, obviously, but the rate of unhappiness in marriage seems to have always been like this, it’s just easier to say that times have changed.

1.) first note that this counts all divorces not just first marriages. 
2.) this country has turned its back on marriage in my opinion; it’s easier to start over than work hard and fix it.
3.) there’s a lot of people who believe marriage is just a piece of paper...
4.) marriage is hard work; people tend to go in thinking it’ll be easy; but it’s HARD.
There are some legit reasons for divorce but most divorces are in my opinion. But today I think people quit too easily.

Lots of stuff, but I see so many women come to this app for advice on their relationship and everyone’s solution is “leave him”. It’s just such a normal thing to do now. Something is broken, nobody wants to put in the effort to fix it
