Pros and cons about epidural?

So I’m 17 going to have my baby girl in February 2019 and as far as right now I know I’m gonna give birth naturally .As for I’m scared lol (who wouldn’t be ) and I wanted to know the pro and cons about Epidural in y’all experience .Does it leave back pain after wards ?

Pro is not feeling the ring of fire(crowning) and not tiring yourself out. Cons - it hurts, it’s scary, there are risks, I felt horrible after, you cantpush as effectively, you can’t get right up after. Your body is meant to give birth but it’s not a cop out if you can’t handle it just get it! You have nothing to prove. First babies are a little more tough. In my opinion there’s more bad than good, however if you ask my best friend she says I’m crazy and she’s got an epidural with all of her children and she wouldn’t have it any other way. Good luck

i’m going to try natural & if it gets too painful after i try taking a bath/exercises then i’m going to get it. ask about your options.

The only pro is that it take it numbs the pain. This is quite a good pro I suppose 😂
The cons are as follows:  
- you don’t feel all/a lot of your lower body which some people dislike the sensation of 
- it takes you longer to recover as your lower body is numb and the hospital will want to monitor you for a little longer 
- it makes your blood pressure drop sharply when it’s first administered and it can cause foetal distress 
- it means there’s a risk that you’re statistically more likely to require intervention and to have an emergency c-section (often related to the above point)
- it is often harder to feel when and how you need to push making birth more difficult
- you’re more likely to tear as you can’t feel the crowning properly 
- some people do report ongoing pain in the area that it was inserted. This shouldn’t happen if it’s done correctly but there’s always a risk that something can cause some damage when being inserted 
- it can also have some temporary effects on the baby when it’s born 
The best thing to do is ask your doctor about the risks and the pros and cons. Personally I’m not having one because to me the risks are greater than the benefit and I want to be able to feel how I need to push to minimise damage lol. It’s good to consider the risks and benefits of each option and it’s up to you which ones you go with :) x

I was 18 when I had my baby. I wanted to go natural too. But omg when the contractions came it hurt. When I got the epidural It didnt hurt. It stung for a sec when they numb your back. You are pretty much numb from your waist down. I had to get help to raise my legs because I couldn't raise them by myself they were really numb. After I had baby and the baby was home my back hurt. But it's been 2 months and no back pain. It actually went away a could of weeks after I got it.
