Blood work after BFP

So I have a question. I see lots of girls on here say they are going to go confirm with blood work after BFP. My question is are you just going to the ER? Your doctors office? I cant imagine they would get you right in for that purpose. And my other question is why is it necessary? Im not quite getting it. Thanks for the insight.
