ADVICE PLEASE!!!!!

I moved out of my first apartment after 10 years, early this year. Well we got a new landlord at the end of last year. The landlord before the new one never had me recertify to live there on paper, only in the computer. (Meaning I didn't sign a renewal for another year) Well that manager resigned after being there for a few years. I told the old property manager I was leaving at the beginning of the year and he said, ok just give a 30 day notice.

FF>> The new landlord then had left a packet on other tenants doors as well as mine to recertify because they had missing paperwork. I immediately went to the office and explained to the new landlord of the conversation with the previous landlord. The new landlord told me to they were going to follow up with there boss and let me know.

Well I get a text from later that night (that I still have in my phone) that the boss said not to renew me. Ok cool... Then after I moved out, apartment cleaned, no damage, I recorded the apartment after moving out for my safety.

Then 2 months later I get a bill in the mail charging for 4 months of rent and excessive dirty carpet, blind repair. At this point I'm getting letters from collection agency.

I called the apartment complex and found out that manager is no longer there!!!! The new manager wasn't there a year (KARMA IS A B@#$!) I spoke with the regional manager as that's the person there for now and explained the issue and the regional manager will be following up with me next one day next week.

My question is I didn't sign a lease for another year, technically they owe me money, right? And shouldn't they remove these charges from my record? Any advice is appreciated. I know this isn't glow related, but I need advice!

I DID GIVE A NOTICE OF INTENT (30 DAY NOTICE) I TURNED THE NOTICE IN 60 DAYS IN ADVANCE... IN FACT THE NEW MANAGER TEXT ME TO CONFIRM A WEEK BEFORE MY MOVE OUT DATE THAT I WAS MOVING BC SHE HAD SOMEONE FOR THE APARTMENT ALREADY🤔

ON MY 30 DAY NOTICE FORM FROM THE OFFICE, IT SAYS I CAN OPT OUT OR BE PRESENT. I CHOSE TO BE PRESENT. WHEN ASKING FOR THE DATE OF THE WALK THROUGH, SHE TELLS ME " EVERYTHING WILL BE NORMAL WEAR & TEAR" YOU WILL NOT BE CHARGED FOR THAT.. THEN BOOM A BILL...

I DIDN'T SHAMPOO THE CARPET. BUT I DID VACUUM. IT WAS TECHNICALLY "MOVE IN READY".

**UPDATE** Today is Thursday and I haven't recieved or missed any calls from this regional manager. I have made 10 calls that were unsuccessful. The voicemail can no longer receive messages. This is already with collections and I'm trying to avoid this from going on my credit for 7 years. Should I wait and see if she calls tomorrow? With the balance being below 1,500 will a attorney touch this case?
