What is the donor sperm process like?

we're going through donor selection now. our clinic required a counseling consultation before even approving us for donor. if you're working with a fertility practice, they will lay out their process for you. if you're doing it on your own, you'll have extra hoops and paperwork. if you have someone you know who would donate, keep in mind that there is a 6 mo quarantine on donations regardless of who gives the sample. it's an FDA regulation

So, we just purchased our sperm for IVF. I had to do a quick blood screen for CMV to determine which donors are best and we go for a therapy appointment next week with one of their psychologists to get the final go-ahead. Check what sperm banks your RE might participate with, but we ended up using Fairfax Cryo. 
On the insurance note-I have BlueCross and after multiple agents, a manager, and examining the written coverage myself I thought IVF with donor wouldn’t be covered. Letting my clinic submit and taking the weeks to hear back was worth it despite my trepidation on it putting back our timeline because as it turns out we are covered. 
For the donor themselves having the ID option for our kids was important to us, basically at 18 any children can request the contact information for the donor from the company and reach out if they choose. Also, we are being open with our friends/families and will probably invest in a children’s book or two that have “helpers” when parents want to have a baby so we can talk about how we had a “helper” too. Other stuff we looked at was their education level, early deaths in immediate family, adult and lifetime photos, hx of mental health issues in the family, and allergies. On the flip-we have friends who are using someone they know as a donor. It takes 6 months as I think someone said already and they have to pay for all the testing out of pocket/lawyer fees to manage issues if the donor decides they want parents rights ever so it hasn’t been cheap, but they are excited to have a kid who gets to grow up knowing their “helper” (one of them was conceived with donor sperm and their parents did something similar so it was important for them to do it this way).

You can use an anonymous or a direct (family) anonymous is fairly fast but different states have different requirements. Have him see the uro and see if that’s a dead end (if it is a blockage they may be able to aspirate speed with a needle and freeze it to use) and ask your insurance carrier for a full copy of your policy (blue cross calls it a certificate) (I was sent an abbreviated version and am waiting for the full copy)
