Thoughts about whooping cough vaccine?

Question

So I've heard that if the mother gets the whooping cough needle the antibodies get passed onto the baby or something like that... But I don't want to get the needle... What's everyone else doing when it comes to this situation?

Bite the bullet, get the vaccine, protect your baby. Especially since we are due during prime whooping cough season. People seem not to realize that whooping cough is deadly to babies. 🤷‍♀️

Just a friendly PSA for family and friends wanting to share in welcoming our girl in a couple months :: Please remember to update your DTaP vaccine & Flu vaccine. No, you CANNOT get the flu from getting the flu vaccine so don’t give me that! 😉 
Whooping cough and the flu can be DEADLY for infants. Adults, teens, and young children can not show symptoms for WEEKS before coughing starts/diagnosis of whooping cough. Not to mention adults and teens have very mild symptoms compared to young children and babies so it is often self diagnosed as “something else”.
The duration of immunity from the vaccine for Tetanus and Diphtheria is very long (10-25 years!) HOWEVER - the duration of immunity for Pertussis (whooping cough) is only 4-6 years so just because you had the vaccine series as a child does not mean you are protected. In fact, you’re at risk yourself. 
Also (blah blah blah I feel like we all should know this by now BUT) please do not kiss Vaeda’s face or hands AND USE THE HELL OUT OF THAT HAND SANITIZER AND SOAP. She will be tiny with no immune system and we carry around a lot more than we realize even as well immunized adults. 
And if you have no intentions of vaccinating yourself, PLEASE, be upfront about it and stay away for a couple months while she gets vaccinated and builds her own immune system. It’s not worth my baby’s health or life.

I personally declined the shot &it has been an easy way for me to say I don’t want anyone over because baby can easily be affected. I didn’t get it with my first born either. I never got the option because baby was born early at 28wks. A lot of people would just show up to the hospital or to my house unannounced wanting to be around & I didn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. This time I am very firm that baby will get his shots when he is supposed to & since it will be rsv season I’m not letting anyone over to hold the baby until we are ready.

I got the vaccine while pregnant with my first and she got the vaccine around 6 months (more or less, whenever its recommended) and she still got whooping cough lile 2 or 3 months later!!! 😒 It pissed me off but I am going to get the vaccine again because she was sooo miserably sick that if theres any hope at preventing it in this baby I will.

I got it with my first and I’ll be getting it on Monday this time around. Adults often don’t even know they have it as it can be just a slight cough for them but for a baby, especially a newborn, it can be deadly. 
If I were you I’d suck it up and get the shot to protect your unborn child from it. 
My dr says to massage the spot where you got the spot and exercise that arm so it doesn’t get too sore.

I just got mine and we are asking all immediate family members to check to make sure their TDap is up to date (need it once every ten years) and to get their flu shots. I couldn’t imagine my anger if something happened to my baby because one of my family members decided it wasn’t a big deal and passed it on to the baby. Those new immune systems can not handle whooping cough or the flu.

So I’ve never gotten the flu shot ever! Last year some of my students gave me the flu and I ended up with both strands. This year I’m going to get the flu shot against my family’s advice. I want to protect me and my baby. My family says I’m crazy that the flu shot gives you the flu however I got the flu with no flu shot in my system. I’ll do whatever I have to do to protect my son.

I had injection done at 24 weeks it’s painless and over in a few seconds. It gave me a slight sore arm for a couple days but nothing terrible. It’s worth getting done to keep baby safe after birth there was an outbreak in my area a couple of years ago so I wouldn’t chance it.
