Does inducing lead to c-section?

Question

When you are induced does that usually mean you end up having to have a c-section? I ask because there is a chance my doc would induce me early (37 weeks) due to IUGR but I really don’t want a c-section. Also just curious about being induced if you are past due. My doc induced 7 days after due date if baby hasn’t come and just wondering what the risk is for c section

I was induced, no csection. People are always quick to warn that but it’s just not true. TONS of women everyday get induced without needing a csection.

I was induced with my first at 41w1d. Everything went fine. Now, I work in labor and delivery since having my daughter. I have learned that there is always a risk when being induced that you may end up having a c section. It can be because of multiple reasons. The one thing I’ve learned by working in the unit is that if it’s medically necessary, do it. At the end of the day all that matters is healthy baby and healthy momma. I’ve seen plenty of inductions go fine and some that end up needing a c section. But I’ve seen that with people who go into labor on their own as well.

If you’re being induced that early with IUGR, you may need a csection just based on if baby can handle the stress of a vaginal delivery but that’s why they monitor baby so closely leading up to delivery. If baby doesn’t show signs of distress, it most likely isn’t necessary.

You’re statistically more likely to need intervention when induced like forceps/episiotomy and statistically more likely to have w c section but plenty of women have successful vaginas deliveries after induction. If there’s a genuine medical reason to do it then it’s obviously going to be safer than not, in terms of going overdue here in the UK if all is well with the pregnancy they don’t induce until week 42, even then you can refuse but they would need to monitor placental function past 42 weeks

I was induced at 38 weeks due to IUGR. Things went well until I got my epidural. Then everything slowed down. They increased the pitocin and my babys heart rate started dropping. They tried to flip me around on my hands and knees to see if it would help but as soon as they flipped me i couldnt breathe anymore. They turned me back on my back and we both couldnt get any oxygen. They started rushing us to the OR and I passed out on the way there. Next thing I knew I woke up about an hour after they pulled the baby. They said it was close for both of us but here we are. Lucky and healthy. My baby did not need a NICU stay at all. She was perfectly healthy 5 pounds 7 ounces. My mom bought us some premie clothes because everything newborn size just drowned her. I ended up with a spinal migraine after the c section and had to get an epidural blood patch. It completely healed within a week. We got really lucky. Thank god for modern medicine. I couldnt be more thankful for the nurses and my OB. They said that is pretty abnormal to happen, most of the time its smooth sailing and things go as planned and if there are any complications, usually its just the baby reacting to pitocin. I was induced and could’ve ended in a csection pitocin already causes the baby to be in distress during labor and if you get an epidural add even more distress and baby in distress=c section. Plus being induced means most likely you are hooked up to monitors and IVs. I was luckily able to sit on a birthing ball but that’s all I was allowed to do. I also didn’t get an epidural which I believe if I did my chances of c section would’ve been higher. It’s a  risky business to be induced it only leads to more interventions and being induced isn’t necessarily the reason people have c sections but what causes c sections is intervention on top of intervention. So just be aware of that
