Is making a child lick / bite a bar of soap abuse?

Question

My son’s dad makes him lick / bite a bar of soap when he lies / says bad words.
Would you consider this child abuse? 
I read that someone from NY went to jail for doing this (except in her case it was liquid dish soap) and it has me thinking.

No. But, I'm not sure what message it sends. Like hey you said something wrong so, put this bar of soap in your mouth. Not my type of parenting. But, to each their own I guess.

My mother in law did it to her granddaughter (my niece) that was living with her at the time who was 4 years old..and then one day she heard one of her other uncles curse,and she goes uncle dont say that,grandma going to put soap in your mouth😂

My parents did this kind of crap. The problem with this method is that it escalates as the kid gets older. By middle school, my parents were straight up beating us. 
I like, “if you’re going to talk like a sailor, you’re going to work like one too,” and make them mop and clean toilets idk

I do t think so. As long as he’s not forcing him to “eat” it, and only licking it.

My parents did the same thing with me and my sisters when we had potty mouths. It didn't kill us nor do I believe it is abuse. However, I'll be taking a different approach due to all the chemicals in soap.
