Age gap in siblings

My son will be 2 in nov. we have been struggling on baby number 2 for a year now. I wanted my babies close in age so they could group up together and be close to age to play together but what if it doesn’t happen and we don’t get pregnant til my son is like 5... what are you babies age differences and how well do they play with each other?
