How long do I let my baby cry??

My baby is 6 mo and he cannot yet soothe himself to sleep. At first I let him cry 15mins, then 25mins, and he has gone as long as 45 mins with no signs of stopping!! I do go in every 10 mins to pat him and say “it’s ok” but I always end up rocking him to sleep, he just want me to hold him all night!

CIO does not work for all babies. Yours may just be one of them, and that's ok!!! It gets easier!!! One day you'll miss the rocking to sleep! Ask Moxie did a wonderful article in tension increasers vs tension decreasers, it's really excellent. It explains why CIO isn't a one size fits all sleep solution.

Maybe try doing shorter intervals so bub doesn’t get so worked up? We did 2-3-4 and 5 minute intervals. After 5 minutes if bub wasn’t asleep I’d pick her up coz she’d be too upset to self settle. Only took a few days

My daughter could cry forever. I finally stopped trying to let her CIO and continued to rock her and then one day she decided she didn’t want to be rocked and wanted to lay down in her bed to go to sleep. She’s been doing that ever since. She was about 15 months

I recently tried the Ferber cio, and it made my lo's separation anxiety go through the roof. 
We're presently trying the no-cry sleep solution, with good results so far. It's still early though.

We did cio for our daughter. She doesn’t take a pacifier so she learned how to self soothe early on. Some babies can’t figure it out. Our rule was as long as she’s not screaming, let her cry it out. Worked like a charm. But she also started sleeping through the night at 6 Weeks Old.

My son was like this and I couldn’t let him CIO until 13 months old and I had to let him be and not go in at all. I always watched him and listened on the monitor though. If he had hyperventilated or didn’t stop then I would definitely have gone in but thankfully it took 2 1/2 nights and he puts himself to sleep.
