Any suggestions on how to correct this?

She’s about to be 2 and this started about a month ago.

At first when she did that we put her in a 2 min time out and then explained to her why hitting is not okay. Then when that didn’t seem to be effective we switched to talking with her right after saying no hitting we don’t hit it hurts or it’s not nice. And talking about how if she’s mad she could stomp her feet and say she’s mad. We’ve been doing that pretty consistently, hitting has slowed down but hasn’t stopped.

What did you guys do?
