For some background info: My boyfriend and I have been together for 2 years and our relationship is serious (he talks about getting married and getting a house all the time). We don't live together but we spend most nights together. He's a gentle giant and a pretty sensitive guy. And his fatal flaw...he's a mama's boy. Today I was talking to my friend and she and her bf were fighting because they got a house together and he promised her he wouldn't give his parents a house key and he did anyway. I was outraged for her because we're bffs hellooo?! I told my boyfriend about it because he was next to me and we're all friends so we all know what's going on with each other. My boyfriend immediately sided with hers. He said and I quote, "I'd pick my mom over you." Taken aback I asked why. And he said because she's always supported him and been there for him. So have i? It's not my fault I haven't known him since birth. And I said that in other words to him and he kinda shrugged it off. I didn't ask him what he meant by "pick his mom over me." I was too hurt in the moment and he doesn't deal with arguments well. So instead of starting one I got my things together and told him I had to go. I was visibly upset and like I said he doesn't deal well so he told me he loved me and kissed my forehead and I left. Now let me say this before you attack me...i am not one of those girls that thinks they own their man. I don't want him to leave his mom in the dirt for me. I love his mom like she's my own. And I love that he loves and respects her. But I'm not sure how to explain this to him. It's like he puts her on a pedestal and he thinks she knows everything. She doesn't...Id never say that to him though. Shes never had a job and she married his dad for money. And he listens to everything he says even though the only life experience she has is raising him. I'm afraid if I marry him one day this won't stop and I feel like if she told him to leave me he'd do it no questions asked. His mom likes me but it still hurts.
