Does anyone know why some states don’t offer GED anymore?

So I was looking into taking my GED and I couldn’t find the test. I’m want to go to college and to go you have to have a “high school diploma or GED” but Missouri only offers something called a HISET. I know this sounds weird, but it’s true. Does anyone know why this is? Or if they’re the same thing?

HISET is like the GED ITS ACTUALLY BETTER !!!! 
My husband took the GED 2 times and didn’t pass
When he tried taking it again he had to take the HISET and he passed it way more simple and easy to pass the HISET Than the GED. For the HISET you do t beed to pass all section like reading, language, math etc you just need to get 48 points doesn’t matter from what subjects if you get 48 point and don’t pass the language section or any other you still pass the HISET and get your certificate

The hiset is the exact same thing. I took mine 3 years ago and was able to get a job the required a diploma or GED. The hiset test was created because the GED changed and made it harder for people to be able to pass it. It also cost more too.

looks like you'll still get the same credentials , they just call it something different . I'm not for sure though I just did a quick search .

I work as a college admissions counselor. The HISET is treated the same as the GED. I think which test the state picks is based on state funding. States have to pay testing companies for materials and the test itself. While GED used to be the only game in town, now there are cheaper options and states are making the switch.

I took my GED test through ged.com and it doesn’t look like they have Missouri as an option for the test so that sounds right

Call some colleges and ask. They should be able to tell you what they accept.
