How long do you do independent play?

I have a walker, bouncer, pack and play, tons of toys, etc. But im just so confused how much time he should be playing. I think its because i was never allowed out of my room as a kid. Never really spent time with my parents because they would hang out in the living room and ignore us, we had to ask for drinks, etc. So im not really sure how much alone time is appropriate. To be clear I mean like putting him in his walker while I fold the mountain of laundry on my couch type of thing. Not leaving him unsupervised. Sorry for the stupid question, but I've been told no question is a stupid one
