Beware of the NIPT companies!

Leah

My doctor gave me two options for NIPT which is the prenatal bloodwork that is optional. Let me just give you a rundown on how big of a crook some of these companies are.

Company #1-Procedure code 81507 (Fetal aneuploidy DNA sequence analysis AKA NIPT)-Bills my insurance $2495.00. In-network, after it is all said and done, my responsibility is $47.00. (I confirmed with insurance co also) Awesome.

Company #2-Procedure code 81420 (Genomic sequencing procedures AKA NIPT)--same exact bloodwork as company 1 but they use a diff code because they can bill more. Out of network, three people REFUSE to give me the amount they will bill my insurance...told me they do not give that information out & that's my ins co job to give that amount to me. I called ins co, they don't know because there is no fee schedule (out of network remember)...she calls Company #2 for me...….$7500 is the amount they will charge my insurance for the bloodwork! No wonder he didn't want to tell me earlier on the phone when I specifically asked. My ins co covers out of network at a lower percentage so my responsibility is $2705.00. INSANITY. And they're crooks.

Moral of the story-do your research & don't use Progenity for any lab work!
