Am I wrong for giving my son melatonin to help him sleep better???

My 2 year old just started taking melatonin to sleep cause well she just wouldn’t for longer than an hour then she’d be up for another 10 hours and well it’s fine and dandy that she can run on no sleep but my husband and myself with a newborn are in desperate need of sleep so her doctor gave us a prescription and try it to see if it makes a difference. Let me tell you never in two years has she ever slept all night,so the first night when she slept all night I was checking on her every hour but the next day she was happy and smiles and not crabby and angry like she had been all the time before. So if you’re doctor gives the ok, then do it cause sleep is important

Is it because he is sick and can’t get comfortable to sleep? Or is it because you just don’t want to deal with him waking up? Because if it’s the second that is completely wrong and messed up.

I’d avoid medication for sleep at all costs. Once they develop a dependency on it to sleep, it will be really hard to stop. If there was a medical reason that they needed it, I’d be open to it, but otherwise, I’d try everything else

I would try other methods first (and maybe you have!) but ultimately I agree with Melissa: as long as the doc says it’s ok.

You don't give your child supplements to put them to sleep... 🤦🏻‍♀️ I don't care how old they are. Take the time to actually teach them how to sleep and create and promote good sleep habits.

My daughters Pediatrician recommended it about 3 years ago. Shes 6 now and every night at 730 has her gummy vitamins, gummy melatonin & gummy vitamin C. She WILL NOT sleep without the melatonin, literally will sleep maybe 3hrs in the morning and be up but grumpy the whole day. Her doctor says it's none habit forming, and just dont abuse it (i.e. giving it to them mulitpul times a day or over dosing). Do talk with their doctor though, especially if they're very young.

Well melatonin is a supplement.  My son will take 3 hrs or more to go to sleep even if I put him down at 9 or 10 so he has to take it. My son is 3 going on 4 btw hes just super hyper active and can't help it even going outside doesn't make him tired so.🤷🏾‍♀️
