What age do kids learn to tie shoes

Question

I know a person who’s child is in 2nd grade, she is 8 years old and doesn’t know how to tie her shoes. Is that normal? I think I was 6 when I learned and with my other friends who have children they learned around 5 or 6 years old also. This child’s mom isn’t the best mom either, not going to go into detail about that. But I’m just wondering if by 8, in 2nd grade they should know how to tie shoes?

If she has learning disability it could take up to age 12 or even more.. judging a kid on his skills and his mother because you don’t like her is kinda sad 😞 the child must get teased about it, no need for an adult to put their 2 cents on it.

My daughter is 8 and can sort of tie them. She can if she really wants to, but mostly by the time they’re getting their shoes on, I’m too impatient to wait for her. 
But we live in Florida and the child literally wears sneakers one day a week for 30 mins so... 🤷🏽‍♀️ i guess it just depends.

It’s a little later. I learned in second grade and felt I was a little behind in that area, but hey guess what? I became a math major in college and studied knot theory so like it was fine. Just like she’ll be haha

My 6 year old, 1st grader learned over the summer. He still had trouble from time to time, but he’s pretty much got it down.

I have taught second grade for five years and only had a couple of kids that couldn’t tie shoes. Definitely something that should be addressed—other kids tend to comment.

My niece is 12 and still can’t. They have tried to teach her over and over and she just can’t get it. Heck I’m 35 and I still don’t understand how to do it with one loop. I have to use the bunny ear route and the only one to ever comment on it was a teacher that made me feel stupid in front of the entire class. Who cares? They make slip ons and Velcro for a reason.
