After having your first baby, was your relationship with your SO strained?

I remember it being rough for the first maybe two months. It’s a huge adjustment period which can be stressful and exhausting. Even though we were so overjoyed to have our baby, we were fighting a lot. I remember thinking “I don’t care about anything else anymore. I have my daughter and she’s all I’ll ever need.” as if my relationship wasn’t a priority anymore. 
The rough patch was temporary and I think the combination of hormones, lack of sleep, stress, and going through a huge learning period was to blame. Of course I would never give up so easily on our marriage and my feelings at the time weren’t true. 
Just try to be patient with each other. It’s a huge change having a child. Try to talk about things when you’re both calm (not in the middle of an argument) so you can express yourself better and he’ll receive it better.

It’s a huge adjustment going from a couple to a family. But we loved every minute of the transition. So no it never strained our relationship, but it did change it. There’s less time for dates and cuddles, but we are a great team so we make it works😊

We found it hard to adjust because it’s a huge change and we were both so sleep deprived.  The key is communication and to take time to reconnect when you can.

We had a rough go for about 6 months after baby. A lot of it was my fault because I had HUGE jealousy and resentment issues with him. I hated the fact that my husband was home with the baby while I worked during the day. He works nights. I am a control freak and very OCD when it comes to anything baby related, and my husband is way more relaxed than I am. But the way he would do things and completely ignoring request after request of me asking him to do something made me incredibly angry. Baby is now 13 months old and we’re a lot better than we were, not constantly fighting and he listens to me more now. And I’m talking something as simple as rinsing his bottles out (now milk sippy cups) after eating, or even getting the baby dressed before I got home if we had to run out somewhere when I got there.

My son's dad and I ultimately split up after his birth. It was hard being a single mom. This time, however, I am with someone far better than he ever will be. 38 weeks with our baby girl 💖

It's a big adjustment and give yourselves time , and try not to change or forget things you guys alwats do , like today for instance I forgot to kiss my bf before leaving and only kissed the baby

It was definitely an adjustment we had only been married almost a year before she was born and had only knew each other 13 months total. Our daughter was born with health issues and it actually brought us so much closer to each other.

Interested in this. This is our first baby and is our Rainbow baby. Me and hubby have both been round babies in our adult lives, my sister in law lived at home with hubby and their parents so he had a hand in raising his niece from a baby up til she was 10. I have twin niece and nephew and used to help with them when they were babies up til now when they are nearly 5. I know it’s going to be different when we have our own and I’m more afraid of how I’ll be as a mother as I never really seen myself as the maternal type whereas my husband is amazing with kids of all ages, they love him and he loves them 🙈
