Membrane sweep pros and cons?

So I’m 39 weeks today and have an appointment on Wednesday. I’m trying to decide if I want them to do a membrane sweep or not. Like I want to hurry up and have this baby already but I’m also concerned about it. I know it can hurt and cause pretty bad cramping and I’m concerned I won’t be able to tell if I’m just having cramping from that or if it’s actually contractions. Any experience and information is appreciated!

My sister had it done and does not recommend it! My mom had it done with me and said she had me the next day but she also doesn't think it's a great idea for me. .... So I'm not going to. I would rather let nature take its course and let everything come on naturally. No rush, I'm going to focus on relaxing and enjoy these last few days of just being a couple with my husband and get a few more things done before the baby decides to make her grand entrance! :)

I have had it done with all 3 of my babies (also a stretch and sweep For #2).. And it hasn't ever worked.. although with #3 my doc gave me a second sweep hours into my induction (I was around 3.5 cm dilated) he accidentally broke my waters and I had baby 2.5 hours later🤔🤔🤔🤗🤗

I’m in Canada and no one that I know who has had one recommends it. In my hospital prenatal class I asked and she said they are not proven to even work and many time need several done

I had it done and it didn't do anything for me. My water broke one night and I had no contractions so I had to be induced. That didn't work so I had a c-section.

I had 2 with my first. It wasn’t comfortable, but it was bearable. The first one did nothing, but after the second one I went into labor the next day. The cramping isn’t that bad. The only reason I would do it is to avoid induction of baby doesn’t come on time. My son was 6 days late and I would’ve been induced at 41 weeks, so it was a good option to avoid medical induction.

I had the membrane sweep done last Friday. It made me cramp a little bit but it was sporadic and not terrible. I also lost pieces of my mucus plug a few days after the sweep.
