Has anyone got a fixer upper house and fixed it up slowly but surely?

I'm thinking about getting a loan to buy a fixer upper to kinda fix up. Since I know we probably won't qualify for a big loan.

I did. I won’t ever do it again. Living in a construction zone and spending all your spare time working on your house sucks. We redid all the floors, the stairs, all the bathrooms and the kitchen ourselves. We saved a ton of money that way, but it sucked.

Yes, you have to have to be realistic if going this route. Set backs will happen and everyone has something to say, but would I do it again? Absolutely! It’s very rewarding and you end up with your dream home once complete.

Will you don’t what you will qualify for tell you try.  Fixer upper can be fun if you know what you are doing and getting into.  They are a lot of work.  Both my bil have a fixer upper.  Years later one about ready to sale the other the house still need a lot of love. My house is not a fixer upper. It was in good condition when we got it just out dated. We have been working on one room at a time to make it what we want.  15 years later and we are ready to redo some rooms.  Like both my husband and I hate our bathroom but it was the second room we did.  And we didn’t know what we do now.  We hate the floor.  Our upstairs needs to be painted but I can’t figure out what color I want. Will we can’t. But it is so nice we you do the work and can say ya this it what I want.  I did this.  In order we did the upstairs, bathroom, kitchen basement, redid the floors on the first floor.  The room we redid everything. The basement we even pull the floor up and put a new one down. Needed to. Talk about a lot of work. My husband made new stairs going to the basement.  He does most the work. I paint and hold things up.

Our house was completely livable when we bought it, and we're updating it room by room. We've been here a year next month, and so far we've painted the main rooms, removed the carpeting and popcorn ceilings, done some minor electrical work, replaced appliances in the kitchen, some landscaping, and finished the dining room and entryway. We're not as far along as we had planned to be, but since our house isn't falling apart, it's just super outdated (completely untouched 70s build) we dont mind too much. Its mostly been fun for us (except for flooring, which is a hellish task I wouldnt wish on my worst enemy)!

I have mixed feelings since I don’t have an eye for design and I don’t necessarily enjoy the thought of living through a renovation. I know it can be done...I have friends that are 3, 5, and 10 years into Renos on their houses. They have a ton of patience. On the other hand...my sister, her husband, 2 kids (one being an infant), a dog and 2 cats are still living at my parents house because their 6-8 week renovation that started in January is still not complete.

I did. My husband and I fixed it up slowly. I would do it again but I wouldnt live in the house while construction is going on and I would hire professionals.
