Would you do another HSG?

I had my IVF consultation with our doctor today and he mentioned doing another HSG during my BC prep phase this month. I had one done in February of this year before I started the whole IUI journey. His reasoning was that it gives you a “fertility boost” for 10 months after you have it done and I would be at about that timeframe when we actually do the FET. I highly doubt insurance will pay for another one and my first HSG showed everything to be clear and no issues. So my question is: would you pay to do the HSG again in this situation? I’m torn because after I did it the first time, I didn’t see any boost in fertility through the 7 IUIs we did but I obviously want to give our first IVF round the best possible chance. What to do??

I could understand if maybe your tubes were blocked the need for another, to make sure things were clear. But the fix to blocked tubes is usually IVF, so to me it doesn’t make sense to have another if it’s not to remedy a situation. My HSG was two years ago and in those two years I’ve moved states so started back at square one. With my new doctor he requested the results and once he saw they were clear he didn’t want to do another. I thought for sure he would because a lot can happen in two years and it’s a new doctor. So I just don’t see the point in it for you right now.

This doesn’t make sense. Hsg should be repeated annually and only if necessary. Agree with above. Ivf ya anything to do with your tubes, id anything unblocking your tubes at this point (if somehow they were blocked now) could actually potentially increase your risk of ectopic so I would question this suggestion greatly. Always be your own advocate.

I just had this same exact obstacle Monday, already had an HSG in March because of reoccurring ectopics... HSG showed 100% clear tubes, but had another ectopic after that actually ruptured my tube so dr wanted me to get another one... I said no, I’m not going to do it... already had one and it got me no where.

No that’s crazy. If you had one in February then that’s absurd. I had to have a second as they found a polyp that needed to be address pre IVF. I think it’s good to check for things like that but you aren’t using your tubes to make this baby so I’m confused by what this doctor is telling you and why.
