Is there a difference in accents from the north?

Allie • Married since 2013 💍

I grew up in Florida which in my opinion doesn’t have an accent. My mother grew up in New York and her whole side of the family is still up there. I feel like Long Island and Brooklyn have distinctively different accents..am I wrong? My husband thinks I’m crazy but I swear by it. New Jersey has a different accent than New York to me, and I think it’s closer to Brooklyn but not the same. I also can recognize an accent from Pennsylvania, as that’s where my fathers side of the family is from. My husband thinks Boston sounds like Michigan, but I think they’re so different.

Am I the only one that listens to people talk and try to figure out where they’re from? It’s like a game to me.
