What's the difference between the NT test and the quad marker?

Do they test for different diseases/abnormalities? Do you only do quad marker if NT came back as high risk?  Pardon my ignorance!

My understanding, is the quad is the most generic and vague. We chose the quad because we have no reason to believe anything would be wrong, but wanted the peace of mind. The quad simply gives a ratio regarding your child’s risk for certain genetic disorders. The NT I believe is more detailed. If you are of advanced maternal age, the NT might be covered by insurance. We weren’t going to have genetic screening covered so kind of took the cheapest route for peace of mind. We got our results yesterday and were negative for all disorders! If the quad comes back positive for anything, you can get a level 2 ultrasound to double check. It is just a ratio, so it can give false “positives”.

They test for the same things really, the NT is just done in the first trimester and the quad in the second. It is optional just like the NT. You can ask your doctor for specifics as to why it’s recommended and decide for yourself if you want it.
