Can I bring my toddler? UK

Question

I’m pregnant with my second and have a 19 month old already. So my question is, say if I go into labour in the middle of the night and have to go to the hospital and can’t reach anyone to look after my toddler will they let her in the hospital? My partner will be coming with me but I’m pretty sure it would be hard to keep a toddler out of the way and keep them occupied. What would we do with her? Would my partner have to stay home with her until the morning?

I would absolutely try to get someone to agree to take her. If not your partner will end up looking after her and you’ll be alone. During the birth you may be screaming, May end up being cut. She would need to be away from that and then you’d have no one with you. Is there no one who will agree to be on call night and day?

Every hospital is different, so you’d have to check with them about their policy.

My husband works 3rd shift driving, so I understand. If this happens to me, I plan on taking my daughter until someone else can come get her. Hopefully it won’t happen in the middle of the night

I'm in the US but when we shoes up at the hospital when I was in full blown labor and I had my 2 year old with me, they wouldn't take me back to be admitted until someone got him. So my husband had to wait in the hall with him until my sister got there. It was pretty ridiculous.

I’m in the U.K. and not known one person who had there young child in delivery room. I think they probably ask your partner to leave the room with your toddler while your birthing as they so much going on. I would phone your hospital and check what they rules are tho.

US, but our hospital allows them. Trouble is you must have an accompanying adult who is not the father... so there is no point.

I’m due in 5 weeks and also have a 18month old. She is with a childminder during the day however if I go into labour in the night I’m just hoping I will have time to wait for someone to come over and watch her. They can then take her to the childminders first thing. If not then unfortunately I’m on my own in delivery. I wouldn’t want to take my daughter as she would get upset with everything going on.

Thanks everyone for all your comments! I deffo wouldn’t want my daughter in the room regardless of whether she would be allowed just because I think she’d be traumatised. I should’ve made myself a bit clearer, my grandparents have offered to have my daughter when I go into labour even if it’s during the night. I was just wondering incase say they forgot to put their phone on loud or slept through it as when my little brother was being born they slept through my dad banging their door down lol. I’m hoping all goes to plan and I hopefully go into labour in the day time and don’t have to wake anyone up and my partner can stay with me.
