Does pumping in the hospital right after birth really help with milk production?

Question

So this is baby number 3. I breastfed with both my boys but had to supplement at about 10 weeks because I wasn’t able to keep up w his need. I’m hearing that pumping immediately after birth helps kick start the milk production. Just wanting to poll you ladies and get your opinions. I would like to excessively breast fed this time w no formula.

Nursing more is better than pumping. Baby will help produce more than the pump.

Make sure you do alot of skin to skin contact and latch babies stomachs in the begining is small so it doesnt take much to get full and pumping early can cause excessive amout of milk production

I did that. I had to pump after baby was born. I ended with a huge oversupply I have over 400oz in breast milk in freezer “baby is 19 days”. It was definitely painful I felt engorged 24/7 and needed to pump very often or I’d leak like crazy. Thankfully I got my supply to even out.
