Tips for weaning breastfed toddler

Destiny

My little one is 2 and half, I’m so proud of myself for making it this far after all the complications we had latching during the newborn stage. But it is getting very uncomfortable for me and I feel so guilty! Especially with all the incredible benefits there are for mama and baby. Any tips to help us start weaning her off slowly?

I should mention she is a baby genius, we’ve tried so many tricks we thought would urge her to stop but none worked. One including a charcoal face mask on my nips to try to convince her that it rotted. She wiped it off with a baby wipe and continued as normal. I’ve heard of the vinegar trick but am very hesitant to try because I’m afraid of it burning her throat!

I started by telling her they were for night night only. Then I would let her snuggle my bare chest instead of nursing. After a few weeks of snuggling to sleep instead of nursing, she was able to just lay with me to go to sleep. It was really hard to set firm boundaries, but I totally understand where you are. We weaned at 2.5 yrs too.

I started saying “not right now” whenever I felt like it, and when she did nurse I started doing a countdown out loud on each side. At the end it was 3 on each side and my milk was drying up so it was pretty much done and I just said no all the time and redirected her to activity or snack.

I put frozen cabbage on my breast and you can get the cabbage from the outside of the bra and my son doesn’t want any when he asks. It also gives a smell. Im currently trying to wean my son he turn 2 next month.

A friend of mine put bandaids on hers and told her they were broken. It worked for her. After about 2 or 3 days she didn’t even try anymore. She was about 2 1/2 as well. My boy is 18 months and I so ready to stop too but he’s not quite old enough to understand the bandaid trick

Oh well! It was worth a shot. Lol guess your gonna have to just tell her no. Good luck 🍀 let me know if you find something that works. 😁
