Quitting job while on maternity leave?

How should I go about it? Any guidance?

My maternity leave was unpaid so I shouldn’t have to pay anything back, besides medical premiums if they even ask for that.

I just don’t know how to go about quitting, I honestly feel so guilty about it bc my boss and I have a pretty good relationship and she’s been texting me the last few weeks how she misses me being at work and how working with my replacement isn’t the same as me, etc but honestly I have to do what’s best for my family and my baby, which is for me to stay home.

I’d like to tell my work ASAP now that we’ve made up our minds about it but I don’t know where to start. My husband says to do it in person (I still have personal items in my office I need to get anyhow), but my mom says I should just email or text them my resignation and then schedule a date to go pickup my belongings after.

Just want to get it over with but not sure how :( any advice?
