Smear tests as a virgin?

So I'm a virgin! And I've hit that point where my GP sends me regular smear test reminders. I've not had one and I'm genuinely scared to. I have major body issues anyway but I'm scared this is going to HURT. Badly. I know how they're done and I know it's a silly thing not to go for something that could possibly save my life but I want some home truths so I know what I'm signing myself I'm for. 
As a virgin will this hurt? Having never used anything inside myself before. 
Is it awkward af?
Honestly do they care what it looks like?

Pain is subjective but the experience can be uncomfortable, but it only lasts a minute. They look at vaginas for a living, they don’t care what it looks like.

This is their job, believe me they could care less about appearance, hair etc unless it is medically relevant. I had a patient once tell me that she got a Brazilian wax “just for me” and honestly it made me feel awkward! They do this all day so they have seen it all. But I would mention that you are a virgin and it’s your first time, that way they know to use a smaller speculum and to talk you through the process. Ask as many and all questions that you have, don’t be embarrassed or nervous to ask for clarification too.

I had my first one as a virgin, it didn’t hurt at all and was over in like a minute. Just relax and communicate with your doctor

They have two sized instruments that they use. One is for ones who have had kids and one for ones without. Make sure you tell them you don’t have kids and even if you’re comfortable that you’re a virgin and they will be careful with you. Mine didn’t hurt

When I got mine done it didn’t hurt for some reason. Everyone is different though. I’d say go for it because you need to know about your body.
