Should we tell our family we are pregnant?

I was 9 weeks pregnant in my first pregnancy when my baby stopped growing in June 2018. Yesterday, Oct 8th 2018 I got a positive pregnancy test. I am so scared of getting everyone’s hopes up again by telling them the news too early. I’m thinking of waiting until my 2nd trimester (if I can). What are your opinions?

My opinion is that anything can happen until you deliver that baby and you both are healthy and in the clear.  I’m 7 weeks and we’ve shared it with our close family and friends, the same people that would be there for us God Forbid something happens.  So many crazy and sad things can go wrong I don’t believe in any “safe” weeks or trimesters to share.  Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy!

I waited till 8 weeks to tell our moms and 12 weeks the rest of the family. And I lost him at 15 weeks. This time I will tell straight away because it is better to celebrate life, the time I have with my child than fear losing them and keep their existence as secret. For me, it was a mistake not telling my family because my baby would have been so loved for extra few weeks.  If everything goes fine, you won’t regret not celebrating and avoiding excitement. If something goes wrong, you will at least have sweet memories. That’s my point of view and I understand it is extremely difficult to do in practice. I hope I’ll have the strength to remember what I wrote here. Wish you healthy pregnancy and a happy baby 😍

We didn’t tell our families when we got pregnant the first time. We live far away from our families and were going to surprise them and tell them in person at 10 weeks. At 9 ½ weeks i found out the baby had stopped growing at 6 ½ weeks. I wish we had told our families when we found out we were pregnant because they never got to share in the joy we had for those few weeks. When i got pregnant again we told our families the day we found out. I would have wanted their support if something happened again and we wanted to enjoy every minute of this pregnancy.

I think we’re looking at this the wrong way. Why would telling them and if something bad did happen, why would you think you were letting them down? If anything it’s better for family to know so you don’t go through it alone. Don’t be afraid to tell people you love Incase something happens. Family are family and they would rather them know than you potentially suffer in silence if it didn’t go smoothly. 
There’s such a taboo about miscarriage and child loss. I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks and when I found out I was pregnant again all my immediate family and friends knew. I knew If we had another miscarriage I would need them there for me. 
Don’t think holding back this information is in some way protecting your family. 
I think telling family is different from telling the world though. I’m now 21 weeks and only a few more people know than they did when I was 5. Close people at work know. Immediate family and close friends and that’s it. I’m still scared now. And I can’t Deny, last time I felt like I let them down. But after talking to them openly about how I felt it was apparent they weren’t disappointed at all. In fact the opposite. If you’re happy to do so, it’s time to open up and not keep things a secret. This is great news but also a scary time. The more support you have, the better in my eyes xx

We told our families the day we got the positive with my daughter. This time we waited just until the next weekend so we  could announce in a special way since I  always regretted not doing that with my first. Unfortunately we found out that week that my hcg levels were low and not rising appropriately. We still had hope but we weren't sure what was going to happen and everything was very tenuous. We still told our families as we had planned even though we knew the hcg levels weren't going up right. I did wind up miscarrying but I am still 100% glad I told them. It was so helpful to have the support and have my family by my side through the miscarriage. It actually made it easier for me. I will tell them next time as well. The only thing I regret is announcing in the special way (with a big sister shirt) because now I feel like I can't use that again next time but if it had worked out I would have been disappointed that i didn't get to announce in a special way again 🤷‍♀️ in my opinion, if you are going to tell someone if you have a miscarriage then you should just tell them when you know you are pregnant. I'm sure it is going to be emotional as is for you and having the support will help. And yes you might get their hopes up but I promise you it is more devastating for you than for them. If you can handle it so can they! Good luck with whatever you choose ♥️

It’s just so easy to think “okay, I’m not going to tell the family if I get pregnant again”. And then that time comes and all I want to do is tell them. I know I’ll need their support whether it’s a healthy pregnancy or not. So, I might end up telling everyone sooner than I expected.

I miscarried at 7 weeks last time, and hadn’t told anyone in my family. I had planned to wait until after I had an ultrasound at 8 weeks. But I ended up telling them all about the miscarriage anyway. So then I felt  sad that they only got to have the sad part of that pregnancy, and didn’t get to experience the happy part. 
Now I’m 4 weeks 1 day with my hopefully sticky 🌈👶🏻. 
I’m seeing my parents in person when I’m 5w4d, and I’m going to tell them then (assuming I make it that far). I know that’s still early, but I just wanted them to be able to share our joy even if it doesn’t work out. 
I was my mom and dad’s 🌈👶🏻 so I think they will also understand how worried I am about miscarrying again this time.

I might recommend waiting until you can hear the heartbeat on an ultrasound. Research suggests that the chance of miscarriage drastically goes down at that point. Of course, anything can happen at any time, but that's usually a good sign you're in the clear.

I know the feeling. Ive had 2 miscarriages. We told all our family right away. We couldnt wait to tell everyone. After our second loss, we decided that if we got pregnant again we wouldnt tell ppl until our second trimester.. I just found out I am pregnant again.. And sure enough I want to tell everyonneeeee but I am gling to hold off. I want to make sure everything is okay and we get past that 12 week mark which is when I lost the other 2. Good luck to you.
