Yes. Bacteria from teeth/gum infections travel freely through the blood and can cause heart, kidney, liver, and other organ issues for you so I’d assume they also flow freely to baby. Abscesses should never be ignored, even not pregnant.

Okay, I’m a RDA (registered dental assistant) I literally deal with stuff like this on a daily! 
If it’s a bad enough infection, it can cause an abscess, which will then lead to puss pockets under the roots and if it gets worse enough for the puss to break skin that infection can travel through the bloodstream. Also I would advise for you not to let it get that bad, because most dentist will not operate/remove a tooth if there is live infection. They will require you to take a round of anabiotic’s to get rid of the infection before they remove the tooth.
Now if it’s just a tooth ache (cavity) then you and the baby will be just fine! You cannot tell by the naked eye if it is infected or not. You have to get an X-ray. So I would just talk to your OB about getting a OB released for an x-ray. Also if you get an X-ray ask the assistant to DOUBLE VEST YOU!! The more protection the better!

I’ve had this abscess since July 2017 and haven’t been able to do much about it except keep up w dental hygiene & oregano washes. I been battling w some fraud work from my previous dentist leaving me with no extra $ to pay for the work I need. It’ll cost me $1750 out of pocket to get a root canal and I’m still battling to get the $2200 for the original work I had done that caused this abscess off my credit line which has ruined my once perfect credit 😓.

Yes you may want to contact your dentist for Antibiotics. Infection can spread through the blood stream. It would be hard to do a root canal now because after the 3rd Trimester most dentist won’t complete any X-Rays.

There isn’t any super definitive research but always lean on the side of rather safe than sorry. Good dentists are equipped to handle simple extractions on pregnant women with no harm to the baby. Infected teeth can become incredibly painful and cause massive amounts of swelling (depending on the tooth the swelling can either put pressure on your optic nerve causing temp blindness or even cut off your airway). Do not wait for this to happen- see a dentist now. The only way to treat the swelling is with antibiotics and being pregnant you can’t get the “good stuff”.

Even if it couldn’t don’t put it off, it will only get worse. I work triaging people and I can speak to someone having a heart attack who is much calmer than someone with a tooth abscess, last week listened to a 60yo man sob. Just go get some antibiotics

I just had one extracted at 28 weeks by an oral surgeon because they're more equipped to deal with woman who are pregnant. Since you can only have lidocaine with NO epinephrine. I'm supposed to have 3 more removed but they want to wait til baby is here since they're not infected like the other one was. Infection can cause you to go into preterm labour. So I'd check with your on/midwife immediately and find a oral surgeon who will work on you.

Yes that’s why I took care of mine beginning of second trimester. I think it may be too late for X-rays though. I would ask your doctor.
